1st OC attempt - Page 4

O.K. I've made some progress... kind of.

I upped my chipset voltage to 1.3 per winginit (Thanks!) and I was able to get above 240. So I then dropped my cpu mult to 10 to see find my mb max. I was able to get to 280 * 10 without any reboot problems had to drop the HTT to 3x though. After that I started getting random boots to safe mode.

I figured this was high enough because I doubted my CPU would take that anyways, that'd be 3.5ghz at 280*12.5

So I put my cpu back to 12.5 and started upping the ref clock. I was able to get to 257*12.5 but I had to up my cpu volt by .050v and I started getting heat issues.. started creaping above 55c during orthos. After some playing around it looks like I need to raise my cpu volt by .050 to even make it boot at 245 *12.5x consitantly. If I try lower volts.. some times it'll boot and sometimes it goes to safe mode. Also if I don't give it
.050 and it does boot, orthos fails or I get random reboots during orthos.

So for now, I'm sticking to 240 *12.5 until I get some better cooling. How much of a temp change will I get if I use AS5? I just used the stock paste that was on the
ACF64LP.

Again thanks for all the help, I've learned alot.

Oh.. and winginit, the bios I'm using is 178xa125, not the newest but close. And I've read the newest isn't always the best

Good job working up your OC, Steady65! You're right about the cooling.... you could certainly reseat your HS and use AS5.... I'm not sure how much of an improvement you'll see on your temps, but it's definitely worth a try. If it doesn't give you the results you're after, it might be time to invest in a different cooler.

If you aren't having any particular problems, I think you're just fine using the A125 BIOS.... I was using the A116 for a while, then flashed to the A328.... both of them have worked well for me, and I didn't notice much difference between the two.

Good luck.... and keep us posted!
