E6750 OCing - Kinda stuck - New to this - Page 2

[QUOTE=gutter;3877368]Yeah all I have is 8,7, or 6. I'm not familiar at all with what let's you have other multi's.

As for the voltage:

NB according to BIOS - 1.25
V-core according to CPU-Z - mostly 1.344...will fluctuate to 1.336 sometimes (this is default)
My RAM I have set to 2.1 (it's rated Voltage) and I forgot say that I have loosened my timings to 5-5-5-15 recently. RAM is rated at 4-4-4-12
QUOTE]

You could bump the vcore alittle more. The e6750 can go high as 1.5.But that mean higher temps.1.4 vcore is a good start. And the nb can be bumped to 1.4.

"The higher the model number of the chip, generally the higher the multiplier.

My E6700 has a multiplier of 10 and a FSB of 266 (at stock that is)"

So howcome a 6700 has 10 but a 6750 as high as I can get is 8?

Or does my MOBO limit it somehow?

What should I not exceed with temps? I wanted to stay under 55, but I was reaching 61 when trying all the OCing. I might just have to get a moderate aftermarket HSF. I was looking at a Freezer 7 I think they are called.

Thanks, I'll try the voltages.

i have my e6750 up to 3.7 with stock temps at idle 28-31c and full fload is like 61-65c on all stock cooling with ambient around 32-33c

this is on my sigrig iwth my fsb up to 1850 and memory in linked mode set on sync it has my memory overclocked to 949 or something around there IIRC vcore is maxed at 1.5 or else it is not stable and my ram is at 2.1

Tj. Max of our CPU is 100c. But even with stock cooling it should not run in the 60's @ 3.0, What program are you using to monitor temps? What stepping is your CPU?

The most I can squeeze out of mine on my 680i before mem problems is 3.5Ghz and thats 1750 QDR/437.5 8x multi/ 1.325v

I am using Coretemp. I also use speedfan but it's temps are much lower and wasnt sure it was reading correctly. I think speedfan displayed 42 loaded and 29 idle. I guess I don't know which temp to go by.

The stepping is G0.

Nice OC!! That looks like a rarity.

haha thanks it's still in the works i'm hoping to each 3.8 stable. Right now i can run prime95 for an hour then it freezes up on me and in linux video playin freezes but i can run anything hours (games music etc) and nothing happens so That might have to do with my video OC. But i am going to try and get prime stable this weekend.

I also have G0...

to start i would leave your vcore on auto and move your fsb up to 1500 and try leaving your memory on synced and see what you get. On auto i wouldn't worry about your vcore going to high with a mild overclock once you get that stable you can check what your vcore is on auto and start to adjust it down (if you can) or up to make it more stable.

EDIT: i was only able to reach 3.7 after bios update for my mobo before that i was stuck at 3.6

It's because the E6750 runs at 333 FSB at stock. So, to get to 2.66ghz stock, the max multiplier is 8 since 8*333=2.66ghz. I run mine at 3.4ghz with 1.25 volts. Try running your RAM at a 1:1 ratio with all stock timings. You might need to tinker with your RAM a bit since, if I recall, most Corsair XMS C4's don't use D9 chips so that might be your problem. If that doesn't work, try lowering your multiplier to 6 and see how high you can take your FSB. Your OCing might be limited by your motherboard.

Yeah maybe it's the mobo or RAM. I tried setting my FSB to 1500 (remember this is how mine is displayed). Then I set my RAM to 750 so I have a 1:1. (I hope that's right. I don't have a "divider" that other boards have. I have the option to run RAM linked or manual.) Anyway, 1500 gave me a 3.0 GHZ OC. It was ok when I ran Prime 95 for a an hour or so, small FFT, 2 instances. Then I was going to run PCmark05 just to see how that scored and then run Prime again for a 6-7 hour period. Well PCmark05 would constantly lock up on the audio compression section. I had my V-core up 2 "notches" and my NB 2 "notches". Still locked up. So I tried lowering the FSB to 1450 and my ram to 725. Still did the same thing. My RAM timings I have set to 5-5-5-15 2T. What the heck.

So, I just got frustrated and set it all back to default. Now it's fine (of course). So I will just leave it all alone. I guess I may have been cheap on parts. Oh well, my first build and I am pretty happy with everything, just can't OC much. Thanks for all the replies. I'm more for the stability than squeezing out as much as I can.

Try linking the RAM to your FSB speed, which is essentially a 1:1 ratio. What is your vcore and nb at right now?
