what you guys dont realize is that like kermit said, the larger corperations have the upper hand.
the way a patent works is you come up with an idea, you make it, then document the living hell out of it. you send it in to a patent office, and they post the patent for everyone to see. if your just an ordinary person who invents something like a perpetual motion electrical generator, then you have an issue:
you either get a patent, allowing all other major corperations to see what you have created, steal it, and begin making money off of it. when you see your generator on the shelf of the local home depot, you sue the company. while the company is stalling for time, they're making MILLIONS off your idea. OR:
you just dont create a patent off the item, begin creating it and selling it on your own, then a major corperation just steals the idea, gets it patented first, and your screwed unless you can prove that you had the idea first, then it still reverts to the former situation where your trying to get the corperation into court while they fatten their wallets by the millions.
it's a fairly one sided game, so grats to the little guy sticking it to nintendo!
