Dumb question re: am2 vs 939.

I know it's likely just wishful thinking, but can I use a 939 processor on an AM2 board? Interested in piecing together some old parts into a htpc.

Nope. They use a different amount of pins.

That's what I suspected. Shame, really.

Sadly, no.

You will need an AM2 CPU for an AM2 mobo.

Asrock did make a board that was 939 and had a riser card for AM2.

There was one point in time which I wished I could do the same, being put an AM2 into a 939 board.

Unfortunately, you will need an AM2 CPU for a AM2 board, and a 939 CPU for a 939 board.

Good luck on that.

I still have one in my house. It currently has a 939 X2 in it though. I can't say that the daughter board for the AM2 upgrade was a great idea by ASROCK, who is an ASUS subsidiary.
