p35 dark disc boot failure help

Okay building a friends rig and we finally overcame some stupid things. We had to rma the mobo because the pcie slot was screwed. anyway now were getting a disc boot failure. when we boot up now, with the vista install disc in, we get a disc boot failure. even without the install disc in we get the boot failure. i'm baffled. not sure whats going on? his rig is a p35 dark mobo, q6600, tuniq tower, 8800gts and 1 stick of ram. so any help with this? i'll check back soon, thanks guys. rep+ for correct answer that solves the problem.

Is this a new hard drive or an old one? It could be that the hard drive is having issues. Also, make sure that it is fully connected and being recognized.

I had a few drives giving me disk boot errors - that's usually the time to run some repair utilities on them or just throw them to the side.

Its a strange one indeed. have you tried different ram. maybe its your rom drive . on thinking some rom drives are fussy that maybe the issue?, youre rom drive is not recognising the disc.

Are you using a SATA DVD drive? If you are using IDE, is the IDE controller enabled in bios (usually in the integrated peripherals section of the bios)? Have you tried moving the DVD cable to another connector, or tried another cable?

It def sounds like your problem is launching the OS Installation from the DVD drive.

im using a SATA DVD drive. i dont think its being detected in the bios. i have tried moving the cable to a different sata slot. i gunna my other thing of ram but i doubt that will have much impact, but its always worth trying. i think its the DVD drive personally.
