8800 GT vs 8800GTS (G92)

Thread Starter
Is the 8800 GTS real worth the extra $60? Im building a new comp and ill prolly upgrade to a 9900 after they are released with EVGA step-up, but I was wondering if the GTS is really worth the cash.

Thanks.

If you're poor like me, no. The real world performance difference falls somewhere between 5-10% of each other.

If you do have some breathing room in your wallet, and you're looking for some better overclocks, then why not?

The G80 doesn't hold a candle to the G92. As far as the GTS vs GT, I think it is. the GT can come close to GTS performance once overclocked, but the GTS is very nice for a single card when it is OCed.

I bought the EVGA just in case I wanted to step-up. To be honest, you are better off trying to find deals when you buy this card and the 9900 as, with rebates and sales, you will get off cheaper than stepping up. the prices EVGA chareges are just too high compared to online retailers.

8800GTS->8800GT by about 10%. There both great cards, I would personally go for the 8800GT since mine owns most games maxed on 1650x1050 and you could use that $60 for something else.

Thanks for all the really fast replies guys, this place is awesome. Also, with regards to the EVGA step-up has anyone every used it, or is it a sham where they make you pay loads for upgrades, cause it seems their stock prices are much higher than on newegg...
