my CPU is going to EXPLODE!

Thread Starter
Ok i have a q6600 with an artic cooler heatsink and fan, i was getting 45ish idle and since this was my first built PC i used lots of thermal paste. So today i decided to go back and reseat, cleaned off all the thermal paste with rubbing alcohol then did the -------- line using very little since its a quad. btw im using AS6. So i turn my PC thinking ohhh cant wait to see what my temps and be and im shocked to see they are at 55c IDLE!!!!!. What the hell happened and how can i fix it?!

First of all, calm down. Nothing is going to happen to your CPU.

Just take your cooler off, use alcohol to clean both the cooler and the CPU, reapply AS5, and reseat. Sometimes it doesn't work great the first try.

First of all m8 i would try checking that the cooler is sitting evenly on the cpu. If its not or it looks like it is but temps are still high then take cooler off, clean up and re do the process again.

Seriously, i hate my heatsink it sucks. Before i remove and reseat im going to buy another? any suggestions?
Did you check to see if the cooler is flat? use a razor blade. Check the CPU too. You may need to lap the heatsink

Make sure your voltage is what it should be in your bios, make sure it's acceptable, since we don't know all the info i use 4 half grain rice size gobs on my old q6600, worked well with my zalman cooler and got roughly 20°Cidle at lower voltages.

wish ya luck mate.
