How do I instal a 2nd bootable drive on the 780I ?

Thread Starter
I am using the 780I MOBO with a 500GB SATA II drive which has 64 bit Vista OS installed.

I have ordered a 2nd identical 500 GB drive that I want to install with XP not in raid but as a second bootable drive. (the XP disc Ihave is from 2004 so I am wondering if that will be an issue).

What should be the procedure to install the new OS on the new drive? do I disconnect my primary Vista drive whioch is already configured First ? will I need need a floppy with the new IDE drivers for windows instal l to see the drive? I have the latest drivers for the 780I for my 64 bit vista ver. 9.64 which is sent as one install file Can anyone email me just the IDE driver itself that I will need on a floopy for this board for windows to find the new HDD ?

2nd I would like it setup so when I boot the PC it will see both drives and will prompt as to which drive I would like to boot from. the first drive will have the 64 bit Vista and the 2nd hdd will have XP is there anything I need to do to set this up such as changes in the awards BIOS ? or will it automaticaly see both and ask me ?

Your 2004 copy of xp will be fine, just make sure it has sp2 on and if not, get it and install it as soon as you put xp on. SP3 would be wise too as it will stop you having to download endless security updates.
You shouldn't need a floppy, windows xp install will detect both drives and ask which one you want to install onto.
I have just the floppy drivers but you might aswell download the lot from the nvidia site as you will need to install all the chipset etc.. drivers onto xp anyway.
Check your bios to make sure all the sata sockets are enabled.

Personally i have not run an XP/Vista dual boot. But i think there are one or two issues with it. You could disconect your vista drive and install xp onto the new drive then once installed plug vista drive back in and use the bios boot priorty menu to select which os to use.
