Acrylic Cases?

Thread Starter
Well im looking for a pretty cheap, good looking case, with good airflow. Im on kind of a tight budget since i gotta get a PSU as well :S.

Im fairly new to building, so i dont know much, especially with these acrylic cases. This one looks pretty cool:http://www.liata.com/scrItem.asp?pro...roduct_id=4700

Just wondering if this would be ok for me, since im pretty new. Would it be difficult to build with an acrylic case?

Any help appreciated,

- Shibbz

That looks pretty nice.

2 points about acrylic cases.... if I may be so bold.

The first is that fingerprints are a PITA, but with care the issue can be avoided, or at least kept to a minumum.

The second is, Static Buildup. I would recommend buying a bottle of specialised spray that is intended to clean acrylic and remove the static charge.

This does a good job.

Any cleaner that specifically is for acrylic and anti-static will do.

I have a second machine (an old P4 HT 3.2GHz thing) set up in a blue tinted acrylic case that I built way back in 2003.

It still runs sweet as a nut, so I dropped a few hard disks in it and now use it as a file server for storage.

If you're looking to get an acrylic case, I can safely say they're one of the easiest to work with cases available. Because they break down into flat panels, you can use the side with the motherboard standoffs on it as a removable tray if you want to, as well as that you can mix and match colored panels if you want or add more space for cooling if need be.

They're very versatile. Here's a few shots of mine.
(Don't mind the TERRIBLE cable management, it never gets used under a lot of stress and I simply don't have the time to put into routing everything perfectly.

They're an awesome case to play with, and the possiblities are pretty much endless.

It's mounted in the standard fashion, generally the cases come with drilled and tapped holes in the acrylic, with 9 brass motherboard standoffs already glued in place in the standard ATX/MATX positions.

I've built like, 7 people machines in these cases now, they're awesome and if you get the wiring set up inside properly they make a hell of a showpiece on the desk.

Recently traded acryclics for an Antec 900 with my new build I finished this week though, so I'm feeling a bit wierd.
