Nvidia replacement for x1950pro

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of selling my x1950pro card and get an nvidia card. I dislike ATI cards so much.

I'm thinking of one of the following cards: 8800GS, 8800GT, 9600GT, something else? (In many ways, the cheaper the card, the better because I am short on money.)

Suggestions?

I think the GPU price should drop a bit in next 2 or 3 weeks so wait if you don't need to get one right away. Depending on your budget, I would pick the 8800GTS 512mb. Also, take a look at $99 8800GS if you short of money. Prefect for your PSU.

If you are really short on money, grab the 9600GT.

for your PSU, I'd say 9600GT (uses less power)

Yeah, I was going to ask about compatibility with my PSU. I had tried doing x1950pro crossfire and it would crash when attemptng to play games, but it was able to power the two cards in idle.

Any reason why prices would drop in the next few weeks?

Regarding the price, I don't know whether it is creditable or not. I said that based on what I saw in last few days especially new GPUs will come out soon. The key is to figure out what you need and get it while you can find it at a good price.

price - 9600GT
performance - 8800gts

middle - 8800gt (you can find em for 179$ US)

Your PSU needs a min of 24A on 12v rail

My PSU apparently has 36A overall from two different 12v rails. I guess I'll be fine. Besides, my x1950pro apparently requires 30A on those rails.

As far as I can tell, the 8800GT (512mb version) and the 9600GT are very similar performance-wise.

your PSU is fine than

9600gt - 8800gt - 3870 comparison

And of corse you should checkout the 8800 GTS/GT Roundup to see full reviews on all the cards in that series

Again, if your looking to save some scratch than go with the 9600, but IMO if your upgrading, might as well go for the GTS (G92) now and get it over with...

always remember evga's step up program too, the 99 series is on the horizon...
