Lapped My Q66!

Thread Starter
Ive just had this cpu for days but just had to lap it as with everything i get!..anyhoo heres some pics..i know thats all you want to see!..

Started off with some used up 240grit..so it must have been like a 400 grit and starting to hit the copper

kept going for around 15 more minutes and got through to 99% of the copper

jumped straight to 1200 grit and went at it for around 20 minutes

and then 1500grit to finish it off

and the temps before
AFTER

So its a good 4-5C drop across the board..not bad for free

I could do with that kind of temp drop seeing as summer weather is keeping my idle temps above 50C...however im still slightly terrified at the idea of taking sandpaper to my chip. I take it you do it by hand and not with a sander?!

Good result btw! Oh, and nice VID...I've been told it doesn't affect your overclock but still I'm struggling with my chip which is 1.325

Very nice, some great shots of the chip you have there.

As a FYI, if you get the latest version of Prime95, you only need to open it once, and it stresses 4 cores, instead of opening 4 prime95s and stressing it that way.

Sander!! thats certain death!..it has to be done by hand..nothing beats the precision of a human hand..just take your time and go slowly..its actually a good pass time..watch some tv while lapping..or just listen to some music, thats what i did..practice lapping on some old heatsink if your not too sure on doing it to such a valuable chip.

Ahhh..that i did not know..rep+..but i like it like this..looks like im really stressing my quad..look how much i can do with my quad..other than this..my chip will never be at 100% load..so i like to make it look like i do alot of multitasking..LOL.

Sorry I'll just go read a guide on google

If you want a shinier finish, just do it in one direction.
