Damnit, my uncle got this laptop for me and I was overjoyed when I got it because I came from a 5 year old desktop.. I've barely done any gaming on it and I was psyched to run AoC on it.. I've heard of people with worse specs getting 40 FPS!

So what should I do, sell it and get a desktop? Used PC's go for maximum 50% of their original price..

I have an ASUS F3Sc laptop:
2.0GHz Intel Core-2 Duo T7250
2GB RAM
GeForce 8400M G (dxdiag says 880MB.. 128 External?), with laptopvideo2go's unofficial drivers.
Vista Home Premium, 32 bit with SP1

Running on DX10.

Everything is above the minimum requirements.

I run the game on very minimal settings, fullscreen, 1024x768, with 4 total processes running, AoC on Realtime priority, and forced 100% minimum processor state via power options. The fan output gets warm, but not hot.

I get 15 FPS, max. If I lower the settings even more so that players are blurry and the ground doesn't ever smooth out, I get 18 FPS.

Is this all just because it's a LAPTOP?
Like, if I built an equivalent rig with the same processor, card, RAM, would it run better?

Should I downgrade to XP?
I personally think its because of your video driver. At the resolution you are playing, CPU and RAM won't matter too much. You should be able to get at least 30 FPS. You might what to try the official driver to see if it helps. dx10 for this game is not supported yet... They are going to "enable" it in the near future.

Ok this is what I am running on for this "game"
Q6600 @ 3.24GHz
8GB RAM 951Mhz
XFX 8800GTX (single)
1280x768
Every setting on MAX (AA, viewing distance, texture and etc)

My FPS in game is 75 on average for Torage region. If I set the resolution to1920x1200, FPS drops to 35~45.

I just got off of it. I had everything at max settings but AA at X2 and it runs great. Only played for an hour though so if I have any FPS drop I didn't notice it.

How can you tell your current FPS in game? Is there an option I missed or is there a 3rd party program?

I have settings maxed at 1680x1050 on my sig rig. I took AA off, as I didn't really notice a difference with it on. I can still play above 30fps with AA on 16x, but honestly, I notice almost no jaggies with it off. So with settings maxed and no AA, I am getting 40-50fps outside and over 100fps in instances. I take about a 2-5fps hit with 4xAA on.

DX10 with "High" preconfig settings (which incl. 4x AA) on my rig (22" 1680x1050), and it plays *very* smoothly. Only the occasional hiccup. Other than that, I rarely notice any lagginess.

I run about 30-40 FPS with everything maxed and 16xAA.
Only thing I don't use is bloom because
1) causes my FPS to jump down to 20
2) I think it looks horrible with this game. Too glowy for my taste.

I'm thinking about getting this game, but I want to be able to max it out (no AF/AA).

Rez is 1024x768 so it shouldnt be that bad... but my cpu is old. Should I wait for the new nvidia cards to get cheaper 8/9 series cards?

Also would the card's performance be bottlenecked by my CPU?
