Is this a waste of money? - Page 2

The main thing with crappy speakers is clarity and range. Cheapo speakers generally are suitable for normal music listening, gaming. The thing is, they cant hit certain frequencies, so that cling or extra few sounds you wont be able to hear. You can enjoy a lot more out of crappy soundcard\\\\good speakers, than visa versa. My suggestion would be go for the better speakers because they can render, and a lot more clearly, the entire sound output.

I totally agree with you on that. But if he games, then a new soundcard is a must! Get yourself the OEM xtrememusic for $70 and you will love it! But if you are listening to music mainly then pick you up some better speakers!

EDIT: after reading his sig and seeing the 8600 for a graphics card I imagine games aren't too high on the list......

A friend of mine actually used his Audigy 2 notebook sound card, which isn't that good of a sound card, with a bad 2.1 set of speakers and the sound quality improved quite a lot. So to answer your question, yes.
