duorb for cpu - Page 2

I recently got the DuOrb in my machine . The only issue with it is this cooler in my setup (nForce 780i), if you've got larger than standard RAM like Corsair's Dominator, you simply can't use it. This thing just barely allots for regular RAM, so anything larger will be cutoff.

Now, if your case extends unusually far back, you can just flip it over, but even with my full tower that's not feasible.

I took a look at it today while I was picking up my OCZ Vendetta 2. Definately watch out for the ram height thing, as Achelus wrote. The cooler does have a lot of potential to address heat in the regulators, north bridge, CPU, and RAM all at once. I'd love to see someone test it out and put it in against the usual suspects.

I wouldn't get it by virtue of the fact that on their website, some dip**** is holding a screwdriver to the CPU contact plate (makes me cringe to see that) to show off how shiny it is. Well, shiny doesn't equal flat...

In principle, while it does look large, it also seems to be a good design as it probably provides better airflow to the mobo/components (seems to blow directly over the RAM, which isn't a bad idea).

Still, big, expensive, and for overall CPU cooling, you could probably get better for cheaper.

Guyladouch: Good points all around, but it's basically a laid down 9700LED if you think about it. The downside to that cooler and my Vendetta 2 is that the airflow function of the standard coolers is lost and the chips around the CPU run a lot hotter than they should. So I'd like to see someone actually test it out, and against the Vendetta, V1 (Tt), MaxOrb (Tt) , Zalman 9700, Tuniq Tower, Xig S1283, Big Typoon, etc.

I got really surprising results with the GPU version, especially to my RAM clock (now at 1306 MHz). Don't under estimate chipset cooling.

Cheers,
Rob

Yeah, I'd really like to see this in someone's system. I just picked up two 9700's from fry's on their anniversary sale--if I didn't, I'd be keeping this one in mind.

Someone who's not poor, please buy one and give it a whirl and let us know how it goes!

EDIT--here's a review of it: http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=A...ead&arc_id=138
Looks promising, but I didn't catch where they specified how they put the cpu to full-load. A 3GHz OC'd 2140 on full Orthos load should go higher than 40C. I'll have to look closer...

it looks like it cools the ram and NB too
It's not too bad but I like the Max Orb better. The only thing I can't seem to find about it are temps. There's quite a few reviews of it but I don't recall reading a performance review. But it does a great job of cooling the RAM and NB. But most of the Orb Coolers cool the RAM and NB as well because they blow the air down and straight across the mobo and the Max Orb sits right over 2 of your RAM slots.

I was planning on getting one of these day after reading a thread about someone getting around 35C load with proof. But I have a question to whom that already owns one. I current own the EVGA 750i board along with the Cosair dominators and I know for the fact I cannot install this cooler horizontally, but I think instead of installing it vertically and having it cool off my NB but I'm worried about the other side interfering with my PSU. What do you guys suggest?

That review seemed alright, but he should have used RealTemp to record his temperatures. I also find it very difficult to read the way he writes.
