Intake or Exhaust?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I finally got my system stable at 3.6 on air. Problem is, I have to usually keep the side of my case off to keep it under 70c on prime95 small fft. My question is, I just ordered the Scythe ULTRA KAZE 120mm fan for the side of this antec 900.
Do I make this push air out, or suck air in?
Im not exactly sure which happens more when i take that side of the case off.

I would recommend pulling air in off past experience, but that's just me.

Suck air in definitely, I tried both before. Did u mount your 9700 facing to top exhaust fan? I dropped 5C just by doing that! Keep side panel on.

well i noticed that back fan does a pretty good job but the 200mm on top doesn't really "push" the air out like i thought it would. so would having air come in offset the air that the zalman is tryin to move? i guess what im asking, is if having this fan on the side be better than having the side of the case off? and will it actually help cool things down without messin up any airflow?

Clean it up with zipties or more intense (cutting holes) in the back panel and running cables between that and case side panel (under mobo). Rotate your CPU cooler 90 deg so the fan faces down and blows up. Place top fan @high speed, trust me you'll feel the air moving then & should help cool NB. Keep the side panel on! and tuck those cables and you'll rock clean & kool.

Agreed -- I got significant 2-8C changes in different parts of my system just from doing cable management. Clean that thing up. My recommendation is to try to get a full air path from lower front to top back. Avoid having your system "breathe it's exhaust."

My ultra 120 extreme is currently facing towards the back exhaust fan, because my top fan is broken another one is coming in the mail. Once that comes in im going to make put the heatsink horizontal and have the fan pointing up.

To answer your original question I have my side fan pointing in . Good temperatures so far, but missing that 120mm fan is rough and I still get good temps.

Yea, That darn psu is the ONLY thing that made it from my last pc to here. Once I get a nice modular one with decent wattage that should cut down on the cord usage. So I feed the cords through the back of the plate that the mobo is seated on? And i turn the zalman so the front is facing down and the exhaust goes up through the 200mm fan? I have all my fans on the case on high most of the time, sound isnt really an issue since i wear headphones on here. Thanks for helping me spot the problem with the wires. How did you 900 owners hide those case fan wires? ive tried all kinds of way to conceal those .
