ok..... good morning OCN

a few days ago someone posted a link to a G80 8800 ultra at ''scan'' at a cost of £350 yet u can pick up a GTS out here for £170

could someone tell me what the G80 ultra has that the G92 GTS does not ..
except for the slightly higher memory bus...
thx

z28 you don't know what you're talking about, which is why you used the word maybe. The G92 wasn't crafted by Jesus and the 8800 Ultra is the cream of the gpu crop. LINK - the Ultra has almost double the memory bandwidth.

nice link....

but...... is the increase in bandwidth worth double the price...? it uses double the power intake & has a slower core & shader & the GTS has higher GFLOPS & texture fill rate

according to ur link the GTS actually has higher votes regardless of the bandwidth..

is the ultra an overpriced dinosaur ...?

the ultra will stomp a GTS. no questions asked. hell it will beat the 9800GTX with ease. they are still the best single GPU card out there and probably will be for along while if nvidia dosent get their crap together. the only thing done right in the entire 8 series was the G92 core and the ultra.

but why is it the best .......are the cores cherry picked...? we can see from the specs above that the GTS ''IS'' more powerful let alone what the 9800GTX will do to it....is there some hidden reason the ultra is double the cost ..cos on paper it don't look too hot against its younger brothers..

it has better binned memory and has a wider bus and more memory to use that wider bus better.

The reason why the GTS has higher votes is because everyone and their kid brother has a gts. Can't blame them, it's a great card and if I were in your position I would buy the gts over the ultra, unless you wanted to own Nvidia's best single chip gpu in the company's history.

I just noticed you have an 8800gt, why are you considering throwing money away for a few extra fps? The 8800gt easily overclocks higher than the gts's stock clocks (see my sig rig).

im not...... it was just a query i needed cleared up i just wanted to know WHY in this day & age where ''next gen'' basically means ''next week'' why the ultra is still able to claim the no.1 spot when technology has left it behind

am i also right in thinking the higher bus & larger ram on this card will only be utilized by a res higher than 1680x1050 ....if so then surly the GTS is the better card ..cos its able to get alot more power down on the tarmac at low resolutions ...hence it would sell more cos not everyone has a 30'' screen

Money. The costs to produce the ultra were far more expensive then the streamlined process involved in crafting the g92s en masse. I think they spent a **** load of time figuring out how to create the best gpu for the market and all that time spent at the drawing board probably pushed the price up as well... they succeeded though.

The ultra crushes all at any resolution. The gts is the more popular card because not everyone has an atm in their ass crack.
