Source of Tearing?

Thread Starter
I'm sure everyones seen it when they play a game or something and the screen "tears". Now, I know that enabling vsync gets rid of it. But that doesn't work on old dos games, and my screen is tearing on those too.

Is the source of the tearing usually from the screen or video card? I need to replace one or the other because it happens to me in ALL games.

No one knows the answer to this? It seems like CRTs are just a myth or something

Screen tearing occurs when the Frame rate is higher than the refresh rate. So, most likely in the older games the frame rate is faster than the refresh rate of the display.

You need to cap your frame rate with vsync.

60 fps or below --- 60hz = no screen tearing.

And so on.

I did that, and it works fine for 3d games. But not for things OLDER than that!

That changes the monitors refresh rate, and if his monitor can go over 60Hz, then lowering it would only make the tearing worse.
