Should i get a 9800GX2?

Who thinks its worth it? Going from a single 8800 GT to a 9800GX2. I want to future proof, preety much. Does anyone know how well a 8800GT *SLI* will perform against a 9800GX2? Who has one? Will it fit in my case lol?

Don't get a GX2. A single GX2 performs similar to GT SLI but costs a lot more. Since you already have a SLI board I don't see why you shouldn't get SLI. GX2 is a good solution for those with something like a P35 motherboard.

If you wanna beef it up, you can always get a couple GTS 512's in SLI and they'd cost less than a single GX2.

It is a upgrade from single GT to GX2. To get GX2 is depending on whether you need it or not but not because for future proof. As you see, new GPUs are out every 3/4 months. Here is the review of GX2 and 2x GT.

I'd suggest to hold off buying a card for a while...New cards will be coming out in the next 2 months, which will outperform the GX2 for less...

Id get another 8800GT .It will perform about the same and is cheaper in the long run

Here comes my next issue then. My card, the 8800GT zotac amp edition, has lower clocks than any newer versions of the same card (same brand & family). Can they even sli if they have different core/mem/shader clocks?
In SLI, it will use the one with lower settings.

What ever card is in the top slot is what clocks the bios will use.So if the faster card is in the top slot then the slower card will be clocked to equal it.Atleast thats what happens with my two 8800GTS 512mb's. I have a standard Evga 8800GTS 512mb and my second card is a KO(Knock Out Edition)But i ended up flashing the standard card with the KO's bios.

Wow, 8800GT SLI scored on average near the 9800GX2.

That being the case, I'd just grab another 8800GT.

Pyranite: The Zotac 8800GT AMP Edition is $175 after MIR at Newegg.

That route is probably a better choice than $500+ for a 9800GX2. IMO
