My friend recently built a new rig composing of an E8400, EVGA 7100-630i mobo, 2GB Corsair DDR2-800 and an 8800GT 512mb. After installing a fresh copy of Windows XP SP2 on the drive (and formatting), Windows seems to lockup completely about 5-10 minutes after boot. No error message, it just locks up. We have come up with a rough conclusion however that it may be the onboard ethernet controller because Windows seemed to work fine when there was not anything plugged into it. He said he also found a lot of topics regarding the onboard ethernet on the board causing this. Temps in the BIOS check out fine, core idles at about 40C.

Can anyone back this up and offer solutions? Is the EVGA 7100-630i prone to this? One workaround he said he found was to use a specific driver version, but apparently he can't find a download of it.

We're kinda antsy to get this thing going so he can play TF2 with me
