e6600 overclocking ram errors

Thread Starter
Motherboard P5B Deluxe
E6600 @3Ghz
2Gb XMS 2 5400 675mhz rated at 4.4.4.12

been fiddling about with overclocking a bit but i cant seam to get my ram stable.

at presant im at 3ghz and the cpu tests run fine at that speed. indeed i can clock upto 3.4 with a bit more voltage.

but when ever i test the ram i get stop errors. the ram is rated to run 4.4.4.12 at 675mhz
i have it set at 5.5.5.15 667mhz with the voltage on auto.

i`ve tried adding more voltage 2-2.1v but i get lock-ups.

i`m pretty new to overclocking seriously having done a little before but due to temps and as i`ve just found out a concave ISH on my E6600 i have always backed off.
does anyone have any ideas of what i can do to stabilise my ram and stop these errors.

i`ve read Elsparrows guide and found i very helpful (thanks dood would have +rep ya but aparently i have to spread so around first) but still cant get stable. i`ve always had trouble with overclocking this ram

i thought of testing the ram at standard settings to see if this is the issue but its actually running slower than its quoted speeds

Use your ram one stick at a time, boot up your pc with memtest86 for four passes on each stick one at a time, then if it passes do it with both sticks. You should be able to get 4-4-4-12-1t with your current RAM FSB.

just ran memtest from windows with everything at bios default. one of the sticks showed an error at 67% coverage
as i write both sticks are at 160/130% with just the 1 error.

I would probably RMA them if they aren't working at factory settings. Try this, set them to DDR2 800 with 5-5-5-15-2t 2.0v and run memtest, only have one stick in your pc at a time.

sorry forgot to get back to this thread.
i went back to the default settings in the bios and they ran fine through the tests.

i`ve now worked up through the voltages @ 2v i could boot but it would lock up, run slow and applications would flash and disappear. it was the same up to 2.25v which was stable but blue screened after about 10 min on the orthos ram test.

i`m now at 2.3v and just about to run the tests again but it seams pretty stable and my temp prob on the ram seams fine.
brb

EDIT 2.3 crash.
trying 2.35

I think the reason is that you're actually overclocking your ram by setting it to 675mhz. Looks like your ram is default 667mhz.

no my ram is definatly 675mhz its a weird number i know but i`m 100% sure thats its rated speed. when i bought them i was supposed to buy 800mhz but messed up my order
however its set to 667mhz at the moment

cant find the actual ones i bought as it was a couple of years ago but i have 2x1gig sticks of this which as you can see is 675mhz @ 4.4.4.12

Try lowering your ram back to default voltage and loosing the timings 5-5-5-12.Then add voltage as you oc your ram.
