$1000 build

Thread Starter
Ok, I haven't been updated on technology for a while now, so I don't where to start. I'm supposed to build a $1000 system for somebody, tower, motherboard, keyboard & mouse. It's not going to be used for any gaming(barely). I don't really care if AMD or Intel, just the one with better performance. Any advice?

EDIT: Forgot to mention monitor also.

You didn't tell me whether he needs a new monitor. For now, I assume not, and gave some suggestions at the end to squeeze one in the budget.

My picks:
Total: $1,001.89

And a version with more storage:
Total: $998.88

I thought I heard that the blood iron didn't play well with quads when overclocking...could be wrong. Maybe he's not even trying to overclock.

Otherwise, Chozarts builds look great!

This brings me to the question: What exactly is he going to use it for?

This is relevant regarding the choice of Dual core or Quad core and the storage solution. If lots of photoshopping and such, then I'd recommend the Quad and my second solution with the RAID array for OS/Applications and the 640GB drive for data storage. If 'just' office use, then the E8400 will suffice
