Please check my build before I order tonight!

This build is for my aunt. I am giving her my old 7800GTX for a video card and it should be good to her for quite awhile. She doesn't play any games so she doesn't really need it. If it dies she is OK with getting one later and I will just take care of it for her.

Abit IP35 Pro$179.99 This motherboard is overkill for her application, but it is well within budget and I want a high quality board that will last her a long time.

Intel E8400 3.0GHz$194.99 This is the obvious choice.

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU coolerFor $36.99? This thing looks fantastic. I'm going to try it out and I know it won't let me down.

G Skill DDR2 1066 2GB Pi Series$69.99 She really does not need more than 2GB of RAM. She will be running XP32 Home. I want to try out these Pi series heat spreaders.

$99.99 Corsair 550VX power supply$99.99 550W should be enough. It has a rather hefty 12v rail.

$89.99 Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B Aluminum hybrid case$89.99 Aluminum sides and steel insides. BEAUTIFUL case I think. The two 120mm fans in the front are a feature I've been trying to find for a long time. I also love the power button and I/O panel on the top. It will be closer than arms reach for my aunt's application.

Acer 20" Monitor$189.99 It was brought to my attention that this monitor only has a contrast ratio of 800:1 and there is a 19" with a contrast ratio of 2000:1, but I think this 20" will be just fine, and for some reason the extra inch is important to me.

Lite-On combo drive$23.99 Your everyday combo drive

Western Digital WD3200AAKS 320GB HDD$69.99 More storage than she would know what to do with. She has 40GB right now haha.

Rosewill Keyboard$4.99 Cheap

Rosewill mouse$4.99 Cheap

G Skill 2x2GB DDR2 1000$84.99 This is for me. This will give me 8GB on Vista 64 bit. I want to upgrade something for me, but I really couldn't find anything else to get.

And don't forget she will be getting my 7800GTX 256MB video card.

Total is $1106.63 shipped to my house.

So what do you think? I think I could probably go less on the motherboard, RAM, and HDD, but why? Her budget was $1100 and I think we hit it just perfect. I have this 7800GTX just sitting around and since she doesn't do anything graphically intensive I figure I may as well give it to her.

I am ordering everything tomorrow after I deposit her check into my bank account so I can order from my debit card since the info is already in my NewEgg account.

i would HIGHLY suggest the DFI DK P35 T2RS as a mb

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136043

its cheaper and OCs like a beast. you can always upgrade to a 45nm quad down the road too. i doubt your aunt will need SLI

as for memory, i would highly suggest getting another 4gb kit (i have the same ones that you are getting for yourself).

if she is a normal computer user, she will benefit from more memory instead of a fancy 2gb kit.

Get the Samsung DVD-RW for $2 more. The Corsair VX550w is cheaper at buy.com. I wouldn't spend all that money on the IP35 Pro, get the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L, it's very reliable with all solid caps.

Hey I see you're in East Lansing, Blazin-Asian. I go to MSU but I'm living over in Owosso right now.

I dunno about DFI boards. For some reason they have always seemed to me like that "luxury" type thing that gets all the hype, but they have never really done anything for me. Are they really that nice? I like how the Abit has the LED trouble code readout. I will be overclocking the E8400 while I have it for about a week so I can fold, but after that it will go back to stock clocks because I don't want there to be any stability issues or any chance of shortening the life of the PC.

*EDIT* Wow that Buy.com price is excellent. Definitely going for that. What's so special about the Samsung drive? I see it is SATA which I've never worked with before on an optical drive.

And I have read a ton about that Gigabyte board, but a good friend of mine has had several bad experiences with them so I am kind of shying away. Have they changed their ways?

I second that.

I actually had my sig rig running on a GA-P35-DS3L for a while and the only two complaints I had were there's no RAID, and it doesn't like going over 400FSB with my Q6600. Now I doubt you're setting up a RAID or that you'll hit a 4FSB wall at 400 with a dual-core, so I highly recommend you the board.

Also, you should get her a nicer keyboard and mouse setup. I recommend this Logitech set for $30. I use the keyboard for gaming (along with my MX100 mouse), and when my good mouse is charging I use the mouse that comes in this kit. Had it about 2 years. No complaints at all.

Edit: My bad. It's out of stock.

Does she really need 4GB for 32Bit? She does not use anything more than MS Word, Turbo Tax, Excel, and E-mail over a Dial Up connection. And that is no exaggeration, she does nothing more than that. I'm trying to get her to explore the wonders of high speed internet but she won't lol.

She spends all day on a PC at work (She's a CPA) so she doesn't like to do much at her PC when she gets home other than the necessary stuff.

Nah, she doesn't need speakers. She has an old set from her previous PC if she wants them.

So that $89.99 Gigabyte Motherboard is the one you guys recommend? There are so many different ones I never really understood which one to look at.

hey, fellow spartan

i dont know if i would consider DFI a luxury mb, but they are great for overclockers and memory tweakers. the BIOS is excellent and its no coincidence why i picked DFI for my socket 939 build and again for my rig sig.

i still say that 4gb of mem will benefit her a lot more then fancy heat spreaders

you might say im a DFI and GSkill fanboy, but for good reasons
