Please check my build before I order tonight! - Page 2

Ok here is what I changed so far...

PSU will be ordered from Buy.com

Motherboard will be changed to the Gigabyte

RAM has been changed to the set of 4GB G Skill DDR2 1000 for my aunt, and one more for me.

I changed the HDD to a 160GB, she doesn't need 320GB.

I also chose that Samsung optical drive as well, it writes DL discs faster and I want to try out the SATA and see if it helps to clean up the case, IDE cables are a PITA!

Anything else? I'm going to order in a few hours!!

*EDIT* GRRR!!!! They are out of stock on that mouse!!!! Such a stupid little thing, but it's so cheap!! Now I need to find another cheap one. I have decided on This one from Logitech

The question is, does she care more for speed or quiet? Honestly, the biggest factor for achieving either one in a workstation is the hard drive. You can have the fastest processor in the world and it will still have to wait on your disks to load the data, and you can turn off your fans completely but the hard drive whine can be worse than they are.

If she wants speed, go for a RAID0 with that hard drive you chose. If she wants quiet, go for a 2.5" Scorpio with a silencer.

Edit: BTW, about the CDROM, I've found that the Pioneer drives are usually the fastest and tend to read scratched up disks no other drive can. I'm not entirely sure if they come in SATA though. Just a thought.

Or get a Seagate, mine are silent.

I personally think this build is total overkill for what your aunt needs. You could grab some lower tech stuff that will do her JUST FINE.

That 8400 is nowhere near necessary. I run on a 4300 doing Photoshop, Premiere, Gaming etc etc. Why not grab her a much cheaper CPU?

Also, you can cut a lot of costs on the mobo and get something much cheaper.

Try mATX stuff. Cheaper and smaller. I wouldn't spend more than 500 - 600 max on a computer with her needs.

You are absolutely right. But, she set the budget, so why not? I want this PC to last her around 6 years at the minimum. And no, I do not want a quad core. The Dual Core will be fine.

I agree with Emeril on the GA P35 mobo, but I sort of regret it cause I want to get a DFI BloodIron now, their supposed to be sick.
