[ve3d]Age of Conan Launches

after what seems like a million years of development, FunCom's massively multiplayer role-playing game -- Age of Conan, is now live for early access players. Besides a 15 gig patch and long server queues the launch seems to be going smoothly (ahem). Hopefully they get things sorted out (plus open a crapload of more servers) by Tuesday when the retail game goes live. I snagged my copy; how 'bout you?

The total space of the game patched and installed is 25.2GB, 23GB of that is compressed on to 2 DVDs that come with the game.

Might want to add that to the original post so people know.

I couldn't care less about this game. I just posted it just for the heck of it.

Why because mainly the fact the concept of having to pay for subscription for a game you have already paid bloody 50-80 bucks for. is there really a point. The thing which makes a really good RPG is the single player content rather than multiplayer content. I enjoy playing RPG(singleplayer) because of the Storyline and what you can do.

Thats I don't pay wow; Wow main focus is MMO not single player.

I don't want to pay blizzard entertainment 20 bucks a month to manage by profile. I rather save it up on a very good single-player or multiplayer shooter in which you don't have to dig deep to keep playing it. I know I am gonna get a beating from WOW fans and MMO players but can you really be stuffed paying 20bucks a month for one single game?

20*12 = $240 bucks for one game get stuffed. I can get 3-4 games which I can enjoy.

15 gig patch? What? That's unprecedented.

P.S. This game is going to suck. It's WoW (i.e. grindfest with crappy PvP) in the world of Conan. Kind of funny how companies keep trying to play off the hardcore badass genres while carebearizing their games with crap like instances, limited PvP, limited/no looting rules. Hardcore my ass... If you want a real MMO, wait for Darkfall Online, or a similar game that aspires to achieve what DF is going for.

You pay a monthly fee because the game servers cost alot to keep up and you get tons of new
content each month... sometimes more than that.

Its really common sense why MMOs have a monthly fee. If you have never played a MMO then yes I'd understand why you'd think a monthly fee is stupid but until you have you won't understand why there is one. It is required for them to profit and keep the game going.

You are going to get alot more time out of a MMO than 3-4 normal games. ALOT more. I had 250 days played on wow over 3 years. I honestly had a normal game last me more than 60 hours played.

Grindfest means.. well grinding.. aka killing mobs randomly. Both wow and this game use quests to get levels.. so its not a grindfest

This game also uses FFA PVP.. you can gank almost anywhere in public places. Limit/no looting rules... again what are you talking about? Have you even played the game?

I bought the collector's edition and only had to d/l 2GB of patches. Not sure what the heck they are talking about. If you have to d/l 15GB of patches then your game is corrupted. Its a known issue, and they said if that happens you should reinstall your game.

That what apparently a glitch. I think it was 13.5 gigs but yeah I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if it had another 5000 gig patch. But really MMO aren't that good to be spending so much money after. Its a waste of your time. LOL. Its sad to see so many players wasting their time on playing MMOs and having a virtual life come back to reality peoples.

13.5GB?! Wow... my data cap's only 10G. Looks like I won't be giving this a go for a while :/

The patch is under 2GB guys... It was a bug with some users. They announced it on the official AoC forums and said to verify/repair the game if you had the problem.

Okay I was wrong about the length of the games. Yes it costs them money to keep up the server demand but how much profit did blizzard end up making last year?

Doesn't the gameplay get repetitive to you? I just play MP for CSS at our local lan centre because it a way of releasing your frustrating and anger LOL.

I agree I am no hardcore gamers but I do have the $$$ to buy games if I wanted I would play wow but the content wise it still doesn't allure me in playing. Its not that of a good game to be spending so much on a game and keeping up the subscription. After you reached a certain level you feel invincible. I would still prefer playing a RPG with a strong Single player content.
