Guild Wars uses a streaming technology that isn't near as good as most MMOs, and last time I played it your characters bounced around alot due to crappy servers.

Guild Wars is not a MMO in my opinion. EVERYTHING is instanced, you leave town, loading screen, and you are in a instance by yourself or with your group. The only time you see other people that are not in your group is in a town, but theres usually more than one version of that town as well which is annoying. "Hey what version of this town are you in I don't see you" "2" "Let me switch".

MMOs are not like that.. they are completely open (usually) and instances are only uses for areas that require groups/raids, everything else is open and you can see other people questing and doing other things.

Don't get me wrong guild wars is a good game.. but I don't think of it as a MMO.

Thats why guild wars is free.

Grindfest means.. well grinding.. aka killing mobs randomly. Both wow and this game use quests to get levels.. so its not a grindfest
I grant you that "grinding" is a relative term. However, I do considering a game where your goal is to fight creatures/get items in order to level up so that you can fight new skins of creatures with more HP and damage output and to get more items a game that supports a grindfest--quest or no.

This game also uses FFA PVP.. you can gank almost anywhere in public places. Limit/no looting rules... again what are you talking about? Have you even played the game?
That isn't what I've read. I've read that you cannot be attack by your own faction, and there is no full loot upon death. No full loot makes sense in this sort of environment because it's item centric, meaning that losing all of your gear would really suck. But making the game item centric is one of the core problems to begin with.

Look, the game is for carebears. If you don't consider yourself a carebear, that's fine. I don't really care. "Carebear" is also a relative term so you can call yourself whatever you want. But if AoC is your kind of game then, I would definitely call you a carebear.

The players make the game how? By living in a completely static world where PvP doesn't make a damn difference? A world where they aren't free to contruct their buildings? A world where their goal is to kill monsters that spawn over and over again? Give me a break. Mainstream MMO's are the equivalent of theme parks.

When a game is released that truly gives player's freedom, then I'll agree with your statement.

There are PVP and PVE servers, you might have read about the PVE server rules. I dunno.. From everything i've read on the forums that game is FFA PVP and is very hardcore for PVP.. Infact alot of users found it to hardcore and switched to PVE because there was to much ganking.

I never played a MMO in my entire life. I'm with you on this, but with the look of AoC I might start playing MMOs, because AoC looks badass.

I may have been reading the PvE server rules. Are you aware of what the penalties for death are?

Its really common sense why MMOs have a monthly fee. If you have never played a MMO then yes I'd understand why you'd think a monthly fee is stupid but until you have you won't understand why there is one. It is required for them to profit and keep the game going.

You are going to get alot more time out of a MMO than 3-4 normal games. ALOT more. I had 250 days played on wow over 3 years. I honestly had a normal game last me more than 60 hours played.

I bought the collector's edition and only had to d/l 2GB of patches. Not sure what the heck they are talking about. If you have to d/l 15GB of patches then your game is corrupted. Its a known issue, and they said if that happens you should reinstall your game.
I agree with everything you said even though I didn't enjoy this game (EA) as much as I expected. Mainly due to the art sytle, I prefer fantasy MMO.

MMORPG is the most successful genre in today's PC gaming. It was able to attract a percentage of the population who do not play video game at all. (also has the most diverse age group). If you (OP) don't understand why ppl are playing MMORPG instead of traditional single player genre, then I wonder where have you been for the past half decade.

Regarding PVP corpse looting, it probably not going to happen again in the future. Because hardcore PVPer is considered a minority group in MMO community nowdays. This is why the top two MMORPG in the world (WoW & TLoR) do not even have FFA PVP.

Actually the AoC is also instanced just like Guild War. So there are many versions of same town on same server.... >< I think the cap is around 50 players or so. The reason Devs given is due to character occupying real space.
