[urgent] Removing characters from text file

Thread Starter
I have a huge list of notes for english but i need them in bullets and i currently have an asterk at the beginning of each line.

Example:
*Remembered best for career in politics
*had a role in drafting the Declaration of Independence
*Enlisted French support during the Revolutionary War
*Negotiated peace treaty with Great Britain

Needs to be:
  • Remembered best for career in politics
  • had a role in drafting the Declaration of Independence
  • Enlisted French support during the Revolutionary War
  • Negotiated peace treaty with Great Britain
I need something that can just delete either the first character in a line, or all non-alphanumeric characters in the file.

Rep + for input

-Need this for tomorrow-

if you use MS Office is simple.Just select your text then right click on it and select Bullets and Numbering and from that list you can select your new "style".

Use the find/replace tool that comes with word, and openoffice. If you arent using it yet and need a good word processing program, Open Office is more or less equal to MS word, and is quite simple.

To remove the asterisk, go to find/replace under the edit menu, and type * in the find, and replace with either nothing, or a space. Ive never tried to replace text with a bullet, but it might actually be do-able. If not, you could just go and find those lines, and hit the bullet button and give them bullets.

If you're using a program like notepad, I dont think it can do bullets. But if you need something good, like word, use openoffice.org.

EDIT: THIS WORKS
Get open office if you dont have it already. Go to edit, find/replace. Type * in the find box. In the replace box, RIGHT CLICK and select SPECIAL CHARACTER. You can then choose a bullet, or any character you want. Then hit replace all, and you'll be done

Although characterized as an HTML editor, Notetab will do the trick. You copy the character you wish to replace, then the "replace" feature is under the search menu. You can paste what you are looking for & that should do it.
