Running really hot?

Thread Starter
Got a q6600 running at 3.2 with a full load of 8 gigs ramm, using a OCZ Vendetta 2 cooler. My temps seem really high (pushing 75-80C) running prime95 and I've seated the heatsink twice with similar results so i think its installed correctly. But being the noob that i am who knows. When i took off the heatsink to reseat it the TIM seemed to be evenly spread out and looked good from the pix I've seen. I'm stumped. Any way some noob questions:
Currently the heatsink is situated so that the fan blows toward the back of the case and out the main exhaust fan, is this the preferred placement?
Speed fan shows all my fans running at 1490'ish rpm's at 100%. I'm sure theres lots of different fans out in the world but is that where they "generally" should be running?
I have a fan for my northbridge,,, ram,,,, processor, plus two main input fans of the case and one output. Do i just need more? Lol
Any advice is appreciated,
Tia

Whats your ambient temp? I wouldn't keep pushing that chip at those temps.

You should be around 50C at load, but I have the Tsunami Dream case, and I know the only intake is on the side. Its that side intake thats limiting you. Try putting a fan near the optical drives to help push air through the OCZ. Or getting a better intake fan.

And you're hitting 80? Thats scary...
What fan are you using on the Vendetta 2? Also, make sure its flat, and that its secured properly. Try lapping it if it isn't flat. Also, what TIM are you using?

Hrm, there are 2 imput fans in the case, although one (the front one) is buried behind the door and probably isnt producing much air flow. Do you mean another side mount fan near the opticals?

The TIM is made by Xigmatek, PTI G3801
The Guy at Microcenter told me that the difference in this TIM and the more expensive Arctic products might be 1 degree or less. Is that true? And, no, neither the HS or the Processor are lapped, That sounded a little scary to be honest. As a last resort I might give it a shot, just dont want to destroy what I worked so hard to build, I'm really proud of myself that I've gotten this far and don't want to mess it all up now.

I have the same cpu and motherboard as you. My temps are about 67c at max load however I'm pushing 3.6ghz with about 1.45v vcore. I would recommend either reseating with arctic silver 5 and / or a new cpu fan. I've got a tuniq tower and it works great.
How much voltage are you putting into your cpu/ram/fsb?

Cpu is 1.4
Ramm 2.1
Fsb .1 over stock
Mch .2 over stock
I've been bringing the Cpu volts down and running prime95 for 20 mins or so after each drop to try to lower the temps, so far im still stable running short term tests at 1.362 Temps are hovering around 70C now
