Last choice, HD 3850/70, 9600GT, 8800GTS 512MB, or wait - Page 2

The 8800GT will outperform all the cards you have listed (at least the ones currently out). Price-to-performance ratio of 8800GT is excellent.

Try this XFX 8800GT 512MB for $170 ($140 after MIR). It has a black Zalman HSF on it, should run nice and cool.

The 3870 and 9600GT perform extremely close when you round up all of there percent differences. Some games the 3870 will pull ahead by 20FPS and the 9600GT will have it's turn. If I were you, I would go for the 8800GT if you want the best performance.

Just pick up a 3850 and clock it to 3870 speeds.

By the way, a 3850 is the same as a 3870, but the 3870 has GDDR4 instead of GDDR3.

i'd vote for the 8800GT i love mine and its a real performer out of the box although i have heard and seen good stuff from the 3870 also.If you can id leave the 9600GT and the 3850 out of the mix because for a few bucks more you can have a better card.My vote is 8800GT FTW lol

In terms of performance:

8800GTS 512MB > 8800GT > HD3870 = 9600GT > HD3850

So just check the pricing and see where your budget fits in.

Err how so? They target different price points. The HD3870 is overpriced at the moment if anything.

9600GT or 3870. Without AA the 3870 will pull ahead by a decent margin. But with AA on the 3870 loses to the 9600GT. Your call.

Thread Starter
So if I wait for the HD 4k and the GTX 280 to come out, is it possible for ATI and Nvidia to lower their price?

Well the prices are always gonna keep going down, so you can't really think of it like that.
More then likely, when the new lines come out, that's gonna drop prices. More so on the high end cards, but it may make it's way down to the line...
