9800gtx Good oc? Good marks?

Thread Starter
Hello.
I built my rig a week or two ago and I had just today gotten to gpu overclocking. I know that I have more still to do, but I am settling with this oc and this 3dmark score for the evening.
I haven't seen many other 9800 gtx postings (mostly because whenever someone mentions a 9800 it is gobbled up with "omg 8800 ffs noob gg"), so I don't know if these are any good or within the range of my card.
I think that I did pretty well (for only one day at least) because of the increase over stock. But then again I haven't overclocked a card since my last build (sli 6800 gs), and maybe the oc payoff has increased. I dunno.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

PS This was done on a modest overclock of my cpu (I can run better stable) and on XP, so if it looks low I know I can rack up some more marks that way.

those are very high clocks. Maybe even too high.

I'd say you should test for some stability, play some Crysis for a couple hours, and maybe run ATI TOOL for an overnight run.

Typical clocks that you should be able to hit:

SSC clocks, plus or minus some: 770/1944/2300 (core/shader/mem)

I got mine both to 800/2000/2350, but It's not very stable (I get less 3DMarks in 3DM06, than compared to say 770/1944/2300)

Okay. Yeah, I didn't know any good gpu stress tester so I just ran 3dmark back to back a couple of times.
I'll download this "ATI TOOL" and run it overnight like you said.

Basically with ATI TOOL it will detect artifacts of any kinds while stressing your GPU.

However, I wouldn't rely solely on ATI Tool. I would rely on a very heavily coded graphical game like Crysis. If you can play that for a couple hours without any graphical errors / artifacts, you're solid.

You also might want to be using RivaTuner (the latest) if you aren't already doing so. You will be able to have your clocks kick in as soon as you boot into windows and you will be able to change the fan speed to whatever you like (I choose 80-100%).

nTune I like to use solely for GPU Temp monitoring, never for overclocking, but it's not totally necessary. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I have been using Rivatuner.
It rocks.
Edit: So when I "run atitool over night", you're talking about the aftifact scan?

Yup. Just keep your fan to a modest level, whatever you're comfortable with, and then go to sleep.

It doesn't stress your GPU entirely, and it's not the best show of stability, but it is an indicator.

Really, an overnight run isn't even necessary. An hour at best. However, if you want to be thorough, as I said, you can do an overnight of ATI and a couple hours of gaming to test it out.

you should be able to easily pass 800 mhz for the core...ive heard of several 8800 gts getting to 800 or higher and evga has quality stuff that overclocks well.

I just have to say that is an impressive system and an impressive 3dmark06 score, that should hold you quite well until summertime! Those clocks are insane on that thing!!!!

Those are very good clocks. My previous 9800GTX would flake out on the GPU over 800.

You must have very good temps.
