[tcMag] AMD announces the GAME! initiative

RV770 designer, Advanced Micro Devices has now announced AMD GAME!, an initiative that is set to "help consumers select perfectly suited PCs for high-definition gaming" which, if we were really cheeky (BEd: And we are.), we'd say will direct people towards buying Core 2-equipped systems. Still, what AMD actually wants is to see people buying GAME! platforms with multi-core CPUs and Radeon graphics cards.

"With the support of industry leaders in PC gaming, AMD GAME! ensures consumers don’t need an enthusiast-level knowledge of PC hardware for an optimal gaming system," said Nigel Dessau, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, AMD. "We in the PC industry owe consumers the same predictability, simplicity and affordability in finding a PC for gaming that the console industry currently provides."

The AMD GAME! initiative will be promoted through game.amd.com and will see various components that carry the AMD GAME! logo. The AMD GAME! hardware list includes Phenom CPUs, the upcoming Turion Ultra mobile parts, the aging Athlons, Radeon HD 3000 series graphics cards and of course AMD chipsets.

AMD GAME! platforms are available immediately on-line from system builders such as Alienware, Cyberpower, iBuypower, Maingear and Velocity Micro. Those looking to buy GAME! systems from retail stores will have to wait until the second half of this year.

Like "Nvidia, the way it's meant to be played" isn't a marketing ploy? They're simply trying to do the same thing.

I hope it works for them, thou most people here can build the rigs they offer for half the cost. The general public won't care as long as it's easy and ready to go.

"AMD Game?... I game... so I must buy this if I want to game?... Is my Q6600 Game compatible. It's been working well so far, but maybe I should only be using it for spreadsheets and websurfing..."

"I kid I kid. Best of luck AMD, even if this is just a stupid gimic."

IMO I think its quite smart. but wont work...
But what puzzles me is that not all companies are going to sell their computers with those exact specs.... Not all companies are going to want to put a 3870 in their computers.. If they do the prices will be just like any other computer.. stupid. Dell has their XPS line and Alienware. HP has the blackbird and voodoo. There is also Ibuypower Cyberpower etc.
I just dont think its going to help AMD out very much if at all.
I like that AMD is trying to get back on their feet, which they will in time.
