I want my Day 1 speed back again. Its now Day 59 will reformatting see my glory days?

My computer is 59 days old now, and showing some signs of slowing since newly built 59 days ago.

If I were to reformat my HD, will it be just like the speed when I first built my rig? I miss the first day performance

Also I dont get how you guys install 50 different games and 5000 mp3s on your HD and not see a slow down. Do you guys put all data on another HD and just keep your OS on a single HD? Any suggestions...

Download CCleaner and try to clean out all that junk in your hard drive. Also try to defragment your hard drive. Other people usually get a raptor drive for OS and programs and a separate hard drive for data.

I keep all of my data files (music, movies, random crap) all on another drive. I keep my games installed on my main (OS) drive. Defragment your hard drive and you should notice a small speed boost, make sure you clear your temp files, run anti-spyware software, maybe run CCleaner. Things like that ought to speed you up a little.

usually alot of people install there OS on a seperate partition on the same HDD, this means there is faster seek times, also you may find it useful to run some AV software or maybe just general registry cleaners as they usually help start up times and hang times, how many processes do you have upon computer start-up

Have a look through some of these and see if any take your fancy

I have programs only installed on my 80GB drive, those and the OS. All other data is spread over my 4 other drives. It helps a little when you spread the pagefile over all the drives too (total of 4GB )

There are a lot of things you can do to keep your HDD's performance up. Use programs to clean out junk, DennisC recommended a good one: CCleaner. There are RAID configurations people set up. You can use one HDD for the OS and another for file storage. Installing 50 games and 5000 mp3s does not necessarily slow down the computer. What are you doing that shows you your computer slowed down? it is only when you are accessing files that takes time. If there are a lot of files that clutter up, it will take longer for Windows or the program to search for the file. Defrag your drives.

We can probably pinpoint problems if you be detailed about when you experience the slowdown.

yeah I have my os and programs on my raid 0 raptors, and my two 500 gig drives are for storing files and such. Every few months on my lappy (which has a single drive obviously) I do format it and reinstall windows to give it that first day speed.

there isnt really a partiton 'program' the best and easiest way to do it is when installing windows as it features its own tool to do it before you install when formatting the HDD, i usually keep my copy of XP on a 60Gb partition, however i would probably use 80Gb with Vista
