[dvHW] Less than 10% can play DirectX 10 games - Page 5

There is no such thing as an OUT OF DATE system.

It comes down to preference of that sytem and its main task.

If you have an old couple who want to just access emails and browse the web then a P4 with 512MB ram is perfect for them...I would not consider that out of date for what the PC is to be used for. It would however be out of date if it was a gamer/high performer machine !

I agree but I assumed Steam users would be gamers

Becasue you are unable to read the title of the chart. And must read something typed in the caption.

Of course.

Gonna take me some convincing to shaft this 7600GT out of my rig.

Yeah, Ive been tempted, but for now, I have no need to upgrade.

Anyway, as pretty as Crysis is, I don't think it's all that great gameplay wise from what I've played of it at my local gaming cafe. Perhaps I just haven't properly experienced it yet.

I would also refute the claim that to be classed as a "gamer" you have to play all the latest games. Surely there are sub sections such as retro gamer, dedicated gamer, and then the upto the minute - buys it coz it got a good review gamer.

I know I enjoy playing some games that are some 10 - 20 years old via emulators. You just can't get any modern half decent platformers like Super Mario Brothers 3 any more!

How about a 286 system?

It's useless for text work because modern computers do it much better. Also, current printers don't work with such old systems.

It can't game either.

Browsing the web? Not without a NIC...oh wait... no NICs come in ISA

Useless. It's too big to be a paperweight either.

Outdated systems exist. It just takes a long while for them to be obsolete.

Say what you want about Valve and it's players, but valve makes money, will continue to make PC games and produces fun games as well. Tell me you don't have fun playing TF2 or Portal. Heck even the wonky hitboxes on CSS are fun. DX10 IMHO is just crap, for now. No one can code for pretty and fast in DX10. In DX9 you can get pretty and fast as they have been coding in it forever. COD4 looks better than Crysis on my machine. I can play at native resolution (1920 X 1200) with everything maxed on it versus Crysis low resolution looks like a DX8 game crap.

The CSS server I frequent also has a COD4 server. Both are extremely popular and both are a pain in the arse to get into. The majority of regular players play on both servers and are using the same type of crappy systems, a lot of people here seem to be knocking. They chug along at there low res, 30 FPS and still get great scores. A bleeding edge machine does not make you a gamer, buying and playing PC games makes you a gamer.

Once a game comes out I cannot live without, then I go back to Vista and DX10. Until then I like my XP and DX9 TYVM.

Pretty sure my old PII 466 MHz system had an ISA NIC...

Like I said it depends what the system is to be used for. Yes a 286 CLass would not be suitable for Internet but it would of had a use but as people have moved on with different and new interests they had to get a new PC. The 286 class is simply out of date if the user wants to use it for something it is not capable of doing.

You could argue this forever really lol.
