nvidia geforce go 7150 performance

Thread Starter
We have an HP laptop at my work.. theres 3 gb of ram ...1071mb available for video memory on the GeForce Go 7150... so my question is... is there really a use for using roughly a full gig for the video card... what kinda performance would be expected.... or am i missing something

Honestly, I couldnt even get WoW to play with anything above 20 FPS in the city, with everything on LOW and in a window. Its not bad for an integrated card but just cant handle games well at all. Also the 1Gb of Memory is useless as I believe the card has a 64 or even a 32 bit interface and there is no way the card can even utilize that much memory. Maybe 64mb at the most.

You can play older games, maybe WoW/GW at low res, and probably some Source games, HL2 etc at low res...

I can't exactly predict the performance, but there's absolutely no reason to give the video card 1GB of memory--to be honest, more than 256 is probably overkill given the chipset's capabilities and the resolution it probably has. All the video memory in the world won't give better performance if the chipset can't render the frames fast enough... Again, I don't know what kind of performance to expect, and it would vary from game to game.

No matter how much memory you have it may utilize it but not like it should do to the chip. It reallys isnt made for gaming.

I've tested on my HP 6512ef lappy, 7150m graphic card. It's no use for more than 64MB, absolutely no difference. I am limited by the 1GB I have in total, but the 7150m gpu can't possibly be using more than 128mb in a highly optimistic scenario.

I advice you to use 128MB because you can afford from the 3GB and you could disable swap to improve loading times. I use the 7150m @64MB to play Porsche (nfs5), nfs underground, GTA Vice. I have however set in the driver options the image quality settings on "performance" rather than quality, but the difference in pixel quality is minimal at that level.
