Gaming laptop? Help? Purchasing new laptop? Need suggestions..

I love my computer (see sig) very much but a friend of mine made me an offer on it that I can't refuse so looks like I'm in the market for something else to game on.

My first idea was just buying a decent laptop so I don't have to keep using my girlfriends laptop to tune my car, and just buy an xbox 360 or PS3 for gaming. Plus my computer weighs 60+lbs and it is very hard to transport back and forth from lan parties.

Then I got too thinking and decided to just spend a little more and get the best of both worlds. A laptop that I can game on.

I am not new to building custom computer/overclocking/gaming, however I am fairly new at this whole "gaming laptop" idea. I know nothing about the mobile graphics cards, and would like to be more educated on them.

I got on xoticpc.com and was browsing around for a gaming laptop, but there are too many choices within the same price range. Maybe you guys could help me out a little.

The only games I really ever play are COD4, Crysis, and GTA 4, so take that into consideration when giving suggestions.

I would like to spend around $1000 or so but what I "want" to spend is usually different than the price I end up paying (My sig rig started out as a $750 "decent" pc build ) so I'm open to just about anything.

Suggest away! Oh and here is something for your viewing pleasure!

NSFW: Damn, good my boss wasn't looking over here.

Anyway, I just bought a Gateway P-6860 for $1300 + tax ($1400 or so) at Best Buy.

1.83 GHz C2D
4GB Ram
320GB Hard drive
Wireless-N
Webcam/Mic
17" Widescreen (1440x900)
8800M GTS video with 512MB dedicated VRAM

Not too bad, eh? I also bought the *gasp* $350 3 yr accidental coverage.

If you aren't looking to go that high, then you can pick up a decent Asus with HD 2600 graphics, 2GHz AMD, 3GB RAM, 250GB HD on newegg for $900.

Was it $1400 including the $350 warranty? That sounds like a very nice laptop I'll have to look into it. I really want something with the 8800m GTS/X.

I forgot to mention I prefer Intel/nvidia but may consider AMD/ATI.

No, it was $1786.10 all totaled... <_< You might want to skip the warranty if you feel you're careful with things. Also, I think it covers dead batteries, so....

Ya, it's expensive, but it's nice. Check gateway.com for some others that MIGHT not be as expensive. However, this might be the best deal you get on a laptop this powerful.

Yeah. I checked the site and most the P series notebooks are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for I guess. I will keep it in mind though, I always like to know what's all out there.

Thanks a lot Cait!

As someone who owns one, I'd recommend an Alienware. I know they look expensive at first, but in reality it was a better buy for me because i needed something powerful (for CAD), and no other laptop could offer that amount of performance for that price, about a year and a half ago. They have okay customer service too that is moderately helpful.

On second thought never mind, they got a lot more expensive since I bought mine. Bummer too. They're good laptops.

Actually for what you get that's not such a bad price.

I am really liking this one, just searching for the best price.

Looks like the GeForce 9500M GS is going to be the GPU of choice. I looked up some benchies and it seems that the 9500M outperforms the other graphics cards within my price range. Can anyone chime in on this?
