It boggles my mind to see the PS2 still getting new games and even the hardware sales of the PS2 and yet Sony now is only unofficially producing 40GB models lacking the backwards capability. A good way to get your PS2 owners to jump on board would be to keep the backwards capability. Again, I fear this is a result of wanting to make more money on their console, rather than thinking long term. Initially the backwards capability was a big deal and even another reason Sony touted why their product should be bought over Microsoft's.

Backwards compatibility was touted by Sony as an advantage? News to me. My 360 has backwards compatibility... You just have to load an emulator onto the 360 through a CD or DVD. It's perfectly legal and supported by Microsoft.

My god. Not another one of these threads...Seriously. How many times can a thread about the same topic appear on one forum ?

As I have said before its all down to preference.

THERE IS NO BETTER CONSOLE. Its all about choice.

If your happy with the PS3 and games...then your happy. The same goes with the 360.

Jeez

And to think I get infractions for being negative on a thread that isn't necessary.

Good for you and your automatic categorization. However, this thread is purely designed to talk about the PS3, it's mistakes, and what people think of the future of Sony's consoles. Will they come out with another model? Speculation on the next PS3? Why has Sony failed to capture the audience they had with the PS2? Any of a number of these things can be talked about and should be. Personally I own a PS3 and I think it has some great features, but I did manage to grab a 60GB model so I may be a bit bias. Having the consoles and the PC it is fascinating to watch each company and how they have handled things and how they choose to address issue and even hear the ever long train of "PC gaming market is dieing," etc. So much is on the burgeoning edge with the memory type being developed by (memresistor I believe), experimenting with putting the GPU and CPU together (makes real time ray tracing a possibility in the future), new standards on consoles, Hi Def. media, etc. Specifically this thread limits it down to Sony and it's PS3 console.

So please, don't mistake this PS3 thread for simple a PS3 vs. 360 thread. It has a lot more to do with talking exactly what I posted about and then some.

And yes initially one of Sony's touted features was backwards compatibility. It was one of many, but Sony fanboys made a big noise of it.

As far as people are viewing this thread it seems to be how many go that mention anything with PS3 or 360 in the title. Someone always has to bring things off topic, be negative, or start some flame war and then people go with it. I have seen a lot of that in recent history. Hard to have an intellectual thread.

I love ten dollar DVDs. There are actually a lot of good ones you can get for ten bucks that are only a year or two old. Half the DVDs I own were ten bucks, I'd say (BTW, I have a ton of them...I have to buy a bookshelf soon because they don't fit in the top row of my closet anymore...).

As for that second part, I'm going to throw in my 2c. I could really care what console is selling more or less. I just want some cool freaking games. The problem here is: if you sell more consoles, you're more likely to get signed for the better games.

I personally can't wait for MGS4. I know a lot of people are in this boat and will be buying PS3s for that game alone. I know there are plenty on this site that buy the PS3 simply for an entertainment system. So, I'm sure the PS3 is filling it's niche. As long as all three consoles get cool games, I'm set--though, I would rather have one console so I didn't have to spend so much freaking cash. Arg!!

Glad to see I am not the only one who has filled their bookshelf with movies they bought for $10

Yeah, I completely agree with Sony PS3 being a great niche system and a great home entertainment system. For home entertainment I use it a lot.

And dear Lord I would love to see all 3 companies just come out with one system this next time around. No more console flame wars. No more having to buy 3 consoles to play the games you want. However, there are quite a few PC gamers who will say that is why they stick to PCs, but you still don't get all the console games or you have to wait a while for that same game to be released on your PC. bleh.....

You do realize by saying "I could really care" that your entire sentence is contradictory?

I am going to go with grammar error on this one. Thinking ahead of what he was typing.
