Did you previously have a stock heatsink on it to compare. That load temp does not sound too bad, but I have nothing to compare it too other than my Phenom and that is about the temp that I get under load (overclocked to 2.9GHz). Maybe someone with a similar chip can chime in.

You will definitally get better temps on higher clocks/voltage than with the stock one, and 6 below stock isnt that bad. 44C is what most unlucky prebuilt-pc IDLE at, so its nothing to complain about

Back to the smaller picture, the fins should always be cold to the touch, especially if you are on the farther fins, but fins should get warm/comfortable at load.

OK, I would DEFINITELY (god can someone teach me how to spell) check that out. Many of the primary things on smooth computing are overlooked, such as noise and environment.

I figured the smell was just the HS it was kinda sticky and smelt like oil when I got it out of the box, but I just ran prime again and I got my first ever FAIL.
Glad I got my Q6600 this morning too, still waiting on a board.
So if my 4000+ dies it won't be too bad.

Strangely after I had installed the HS and put my mobo back in, booted up
after the ASUS logo it starts scanning for raid, never has it done that the whole time i've had this board, can't figure out why it's doing that.
I hate randomness!

Reread your cooling mod, Adrian. Now I remember where I saw those Enzotechs in the first place LOL. It's a great post.

I'm operating under the assumption that the 'bearing mod' is the washer.

Thanks for your info and replies.

Yes, the bearing mod is the thing with the washer.

What application method for the paste did you use with the V2?

Application method? Uh the small blob? I actualy reseated it again and used a different paste, now my max temp after running prime for a few hours is 41C idling at 32, hot day though, so i'm happy with that I guess.
These types of heatsinks you apply differently. You should first fill in the gaps around the heatpipes and then run a thin line horizontally across all three pipes. This will help your temps some.
