Ok I just picked this CPU yesterday man do I love it. Old 3dmark06 with 5600 x2 I got 10300 now my best score is 12500. Nice jump if you ask me. So I got it up to 3.0 stable good chip but under full load I'm touching 60c So they need to come down. Any ideas does my 9500 zalman need to go.

The 9500 is not THAT bad of a cooler. What thermal paste did you use and what is the ambient (room) temps?

I used as5 it sits at 37c right now my old 5600 ran about 30c maybe its the 125watt vs the 89 or what ever the 5600 was. its about 72F in the room am in. I just applyed the as5 though so maybe not working all that great yet.
The AS5 may need to cure yet, but I would think you should get better temps than that. Did you apply the paste correctly, possibly too much? The case you have has adaquate cooling so at least that is not a factor.

I had the 9500, but switched it out for the cooler in my sig because I thought it was problem. Turns out it was my thermal paste, but I like the current cooler better so why go back.

Cbr600, just in case your wondering here are the instructions straight from Arctic Silver's website on how to apply the thermal compound: http://www.arcticsilver.com/ins_route_step2amdas5.html.
Have you checked the base of the 9500 cooler to make sure it's not concave, convex, scratched, damaged ect ect. Perhaps it may need a lap.

Good luck

Well I for sure aplyed it right. Did it a couple times . Well I need to reload windows and all becuase I just swaped it in for my 5600 so I'm sure some of the drivers are not working right and the temp programs are kinda acting funny only showing 1 core in core temps. So maybe there not even right we will see to Night I plan on going home and playing with it

Lap the processor and heat sink. Then apply you some good ol' OCZ Freeze. You will be on your way to cooler temps.

I love that OCZ Freeze i think its way better then AS5. I can hold 35c on a overclocked 9600 with a stock lapped heatsink.

9500 is okay but the 9700 is a f8$#ing beast.

CBR600, you should have to format after swapping processors. If your going from a single core to a dual core then you just need to make sure in the Device Manager under Computer that "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" is listed. Check the task manager under performance and verify that there is more then 1 core present.

Good luck
