E6600 Voltage

post #1 of 12
Thread Starter
Hello, currently I am using an E6600 running at 3.6GHz with a 1.475V BIOS Vcore and a 1.425V active Vcore.

Currently everything is running perfectly, except I am concerned with my CPU thermals. Right now, I am using a Zalman FS-C77, which is unlapped at this time. Under 100% load, the CPU reaches a 64C cap, and usually around a 48C idle.

I am considering lapping, but I really don't need 3.6GHz, what I would like to do is keep my current config:
FSB = 400MHz x 9 = 3,600MHz,
RAM = DDR2 @ 800MHz,
but downclock my multiplier to x8 so I can lower my thermals, but I am not sure on what Vcore I would use for an E6600 @ 3.2GHz, 400MHz FSB x8.
I am using an ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard

Anyone have a similar config or any suggestion on a Vcore?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Is that the lowest vcore you're stable at for 3.6Ghz? But 64c is not to high.

Hmmm? I was reading around and it seems you don't want your CPU to run past 55C.

I was originally using 1.45V in BIOS, which went to 1.40V active, but the stability was questionable.

Instead of lowering your clock speed and voltage (since you're under the voltage spec limit anyways), I would investigate upgrading your cooling, or lapping both CPU and heatsink. I run the same voltage @ load (1.425v) at the same speed (same basic overclock as yours) and I get temps in the low to mid 50's at load, idle around 30-31C. Ambient is 21C.

My E6600 is running at 3.6GHz and the vcore is 1.384 in CPU-Z. I ran orthos for many hours and it is stable. The vcore I set in BIOS is 1.4v and I did the vdroop mod to my 680i.

Ahhh, afzsom, you and I have similar rigs in terms of core components. What do you run your RAM at? I'm running mine at a 2.1V BIOS, 1.8V active, I am going to run a memtest86 (hopefully, if I can get it working) within the next few hours, so I am not completely sure on the stability.

I manually set all of my RAM and NB specs according to the corsair website and multiple P5B overclocking guides, so I think I'm good there. The only thing I am concerned about is the Vdroop occurring with my RAM.

Hm, there's really not much vdroop with the memory modules that I can tell. I'm running mine at DDR2-800 (400MHz) with 5-5-5-12 timings and 1.9v in the BIOS. Bone stock

I've not got any true "NB" voltage options in my BIOS, so I can't help you there, I just set the FSB Termination to 1.3v I believe. And the vDroop, well....I don't have any

1.425v set in the BIOS, 1.424v under idle, 1.424v under load

What exactly is FSB Termination Voltage? I was looking through the P5B guides and all they said was "it helps high overclocks"... Other than that, I think I'm going to leave the CPU at its current settings and order up a lapping kit, hopefully I won't screw it up lol!
