ECS 8800 GTS G92 PCI x16 V 2.0 Question

Thread Starter
Hello.

I was wondering if there would be any performance differences for an 8800 GTS G92 when used with a PCI 2.0 slot VS PCI express 16. My reason for asking is that I cannot find a non-700 series motherboard with PCI 2.0, and don't want to buy a 700 series motherboard, because of the problems with video playback.

No. Even "2.0" cards don't use all the 1.4 bandwidth.

Thanks.

Also is their any difference between this ECS card and the other 8800 GTS G92's? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814134037

I mean it's so much cheaper after rebates than the others... is it just because of the lack of reviews?

Well, ECS isn't made by Foxconn, so it would be of slightly less quality, and there was a News Article about the different brands actually having noticeable FPS differences.

The difference is their clock speed and warrenty. but if you're planning to overclock... the ECS can get to the speed of otehr 8800 GTS.. if you're not overclocking. then find one with higher clock speed

So the ECS is not equal to say the EVGA or MSI? Seems misleading as they have the exact same names. Alright I need some advice here. I am getting one card for a non-SLI custom built system I have been working on getting for quite some time. I need advice on a good- nay-great card for under $250 that should last me at least 3 years without requiring replacement. My specs will be q6600, 64bit Vista Premium, and 4 GB A-data ram at 800Mhz. I play First person shooters, simulators, and epic strategy games- plan on playing crysis, yes crysis on maximun settings some day with the system I am working on. Will be using a 19'' LCD monitor.

The primary difference is the warranty, and that is very important.

I would avoid ECS and PNY and just stick with the others, unless of course price keeps you away from the big makers.

Alright, if you're overclocking and worry about your card's going to break.. or you might just use this card temporarily.. i would get the evga version, they have nice warrenty... even if you break your card [if it still looks like how it was].. (as in you didnt chip something off)
If you're loaded with money.. Get the ECS 8800 GTS or something.. it's cheap.. but their warrenty isn't so great.

I use myself as an example. I got the Evga 8800 GTS.. because i know i will overclock it... and i know i might upgrade sometime in the future.. with the evga 90 day step up program.
