Thread Starter
i'm completely new to overclocking. i dont wanna ask a thousand questions so if someone can point me to some stuff to read for my processor. its a Q6600 G0.
i wanna overclock it but i do a lot of gaming and i dnt wanna burn out my computer just to make it faster. i built the pc myself and have a TRUE with a mounted fan. temps are only at 40c at full load for the cores. i'm thinking about just 3.0 to 3.2 right now. what do you guys think?
also i have a evga 780i mobo

You should easily be able to get 3.0 with a G0. Here's a great general Intel OCing guide.
http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...ing-guide.html
Also if you could fill in your specs it would be easier to help you. Go to the top of the page, see the thick black line? Click on User CP and fill in your specs. And good luck.
If you have specific questions post back.

Some people have gotten to 3.0 on stock voltages. Although I'm not sure with that board. Just up the FSB slowly and when you hit a spot where you lose stability up the voltage one notch. Repeat this process until you're happy with your clock.

Check out this thread for some basics. I don't have the Q6600-specific theads bookmarked on this computer, but I'll get them later.

Also, try checking the mother board area for 780i specifics. There are probably Q6600-780i devoted threads that will be wonders to you.

Good luck! And welcome to OCN

In terms of the bios, you'll definitely want to reference the mobo section. They'll be able to tell you what the differences in the versions are, and how/when to update.
