help choosing ram for new rig

Thread Starter
I've been researching ram for the past few hours and i've come up with a lot of maybe simple questions that need answering to clear some things up for me. I think i have searched enough that i deserve to post a question now. My sig rig i built at xmas and i now sold to my bro so its not my problem anymore, and im goin to college and will be buying a brand new rig around july-august since i've heard prices for certain products will drop, such as the Q9550.

well here they are:

1. DDR2 or DDR3? I ask this because when i look at the most popular ddr2 ram, say the G.SKILL PC6400 2x2 gb its only $85, and i feel like i can spend up to $200 on the ram, but the ddr3 is at least $300 and not widely used. It seems i'm buying in between the age of ddr2 and ddr3 ram?

2. PC2 6400 or PC2 8500? The 6400's seem to be the most popular, and i think it may be because ppl oc it to where the 8500 can go.

3. Is the IC still a big deal? I just read the sticky concerning how impt the IC of a RAM module is, but it was posted 2 years ago...

OR just answer the summed up question

I want to spend around $200 for RAM, and i plan to get the Q9550 when it drops in price, so what RAM is best suited for me?

I guess this would also depend on the board your getting also, but IMO ddr3 is just to expensive for minimum gains as of now. I would get the ram in my sig or maybe even the 8000's series of G.SKILL,the Corsair Dominator's are something to look at also.
