GPU fan GRINDING

Thread Starter
I just got my PC back from having the motherboard replaced by my moms friend, and I checked my temps and my GPU temp was 108 celsius. i immediately checked it out and found a sticker stuck inside the fan, and I have no idea why.

so i figured, ok its all fixed, started the pc up, and the temps are about 70 on boot (8800GT) and it was grinding extremely loud and I knew something is wrong again.

i have the card out, and i cant really spin the fan at all, it just grinds on the metal behind it or something, and i dont know what i can do.

i have never taken a fan off of a GPU but im guessing you unscrew all the screws. i only got it about 3 months ago and it was fine before. any idea what i should do / why its doing it?

Seams like the fan is grinding against the heat sink... You should RMA to BFG to get a new one...

You should either take the card apart as much as you can and investigate the problem, or just do an RMA if that is possible. If it is not possible to RMA the card then you could just get an after market heatsink and fan for your video card. Hope this helps.

I would, but I don't have any of the boxes

its odd because it worked fine before, all the sudden, and there was a sticker stuck inside it, and now the grinding.

I unscrewed all the screws and took the 2 parts apart. I cant really do much, the fan is under the metal which I can't get to, and it just grinds on it I dont think there is much i can do. i guess i could just buy another heatsink for it, but i have no clue how to put it on.

is there any GPU heatsinks that are easy to install, and priced fairly cheap?

I'm guessing that is the only option other then buying a new card.

Some companies do not want any of the original materials when sending in an RMA. I know some of them just want the video card and only the video card. You should look into it to be sure.

You could buy an after-market heatsink and just replace the stock one.
