Unmountable_Boot_Volume

Stop:0x000000ED (0x82386590, 0xC000009C, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

This happened to a friends computer and we can seem to figure out what is happening. Its a Dell Optiplex 745, I am thinking its the hard drive but I'm not sure what it may be. The computer boot off the HDD ask for what safe mode, networking , command prompt, last good config., and normal. i went with normal and it does the same, the windows logo goes on and then it gives the BSOD, for what ever i choose. What happened was the computer was on and the power when out in the house so that what caused it.

I don't have access to the computer so will have to do what ever i need tomorrow. I forgot about making a bootable dos file and doing the disk check.

any help would bee appreciated
thanx

I know this problem very well.

Insert a Windows XP (or whatever OS it's running) disc into the PC. After it goes through it's set-up and loading...you will come to a welcome screen. Press R. This will start the recovery console and bring you to a DOS prompt.

Type: "chkdsk /p" and press enter. (no quotations)

It will take some time for this to complete...but when it does...you will still be at the DOS prompt.

Type: "fixboot" and press enter (no quotations)

When this is complete...

Type: "Exit"

And you should be up and running.

NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE

Dell systems are kinda funny about this. If you receive an error "SETUP DID NOT FIND ANY HARD DRIVES INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER"...Dont freak.

Restart and enter the Dell setup (I thinks its F2 for Dell)

Scroll to SATA OPERATION

Change the SATA OPERATION setting to "COMBINATION"

Restart and use the recovery console like stated above.

Just remember to change the SATA OPERATION setting back to Auto Detect/AHCI when you have completed the recovery console.
