Artic Cooling MX-2 not performing well

Thread Starter
OK.. here is the deal...

I just got my self a new TRUE to replace my ULTRA Chilltec and also bought Artic Cooling MX-2 hoping to get best result possible...

Since I have installed TRUE (lapped) my idle and load went up around 20 degrees higher than ULTRA Chilltec. Thinking that compound has to set in for a bit, I waited few days but temp. didn't change at all.

With ULTRA, I used to manage 30 degrees idle and 45-50 load.
with TRUE, I averaged 48 idle and super hot 70 degrees on TRUE.

So.. blaming my lap job on TRUE, I decided to put ULTRA chilltec back on while I can get the time to lap TRUE. This time I also used Artic Cooling MX-2 and it gave me higher temp than before with Antec Silver Formular 5. As stated above, temp used to be around 30s, now I'm seeing around 36 degree.

So.. question is... does MX-2 need long period to set in?

I've been building many computers.. so I'm sure I set it in correctly and used right amount of thermal compound

Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading this

No mx-2 needs no break in period, my guess is that you applied way too much. I am also using mx-2 and get the exact same temps as with arctic silver. I recommend applying less compound.

I'm glad I stuck with AS5 and ceramique, nvr had reason to try anything else. As far as i know the M doesn't have a cure time.

MX2 doesn`t have a cure time.
i use it to and i got 2c better temps with the MX2 than with AS5

Tear drop is too much. Try with none, see if your temps improve. If they do, add the MX-2 lightly in a polka-dot manner, or a very very small dot in the middle if you are lazy.

Get bent Adrien, he's asking for help, not sarcasm.

Anyways, he's a guide on how to install MX-2
Basically a drop in the center [size of a grain of rice] and squish on the heatsink.

I got lower temps then AS5, so, I think its the manner in which you applied it. Sorry.

maybe even try that mod where you place a metal washer between the mounting bracket and the heatsink base. No guarantee you're making good contact, if you're sure everything else is right, and your temps are so high.

I recently had a bad contact experience with a Scythe Ninja B, and a TRUE and MX-2 turned out to be just the ticket.

Good luck!
