Is It Really That Good?

Thread Starter
I was reading an article in PC World magazine(June 2008) issue. The article was writen by:Erik Larkin and title of the article was Firefox Winning Latest Browser Battle. So i was wondering how fast my IE 7 was and i tested it with Sunspider Javascript,And it was pretty Dang Slow(34466.4ms)
So what i really want to know is it as good and as fast as the article says, because i was thinking of using the lateset version;;Firefox 3.0 Beta 5.

many people prefer firefox over IE for many reasons. some because its faster, some more secure, some just because of the wide variety of addons. i would start by trying out firefox 2 first and see if you like it. then go to firefox 3 when its officialy released, the beta was unstable for me.

The newest CR1 of Firefox 3 works like a champ. I like how customizable Firefox is. I also like the fact that it spell checks as you type. I'm a pretty bad speller generally so it's a perk for me.

I have been running the portable version of FF 3 beta 5 at work and it is great. At home though, Opera is king.

I'd say just give it a try--no way of knowing you'll like it until you try it. I did, and I'm never using IE again on a home computer. Firefox (regardless of version, but even 3.0) is much less sluggish than IE for me. But if it doesn't work out for your preferences, then there's no commitment, so you can just uninstall it and go back to IE, no worries.

not surprised that IE is so slow. I use Opera but Firefox is a better option than IE7. Firefox has alot of addons so that you can customize it.

I have noticed that FF2 is much slower than FF3 beta, though. (at least for me.) You might take that into consideration if you try out FF2 and compare it to IE.

I noticed a definite performance improvement in FF3 beta(and rc1) over FF2, but I have had some stability issues as well.

Definitely give it a try, though.
