9800GX2 to 8800GTX

Thread Starter
Quick question, would it be more beneficial to get one 9800GX2 or to get two8800GTX. I have a 780I 3-way SLI motherboard and I was wondering if somoene could give me the benchmark difference between the two. I do plan on upgrading way later.

Wait until the 4xxx line from ATI and the 9900 line from nVidia are released.

Waiting for new hardware is an endless loop that I don't recommend finding yourself in.

Although true, its worth waiting for a generation change. I wouldnt wait for a new card based on a current core, eg the 9800gtx which is a pointless upgrade if you have something like a 8800gts 512mb.

In most cases, yes. Not in this case. Buying a vid card right now is pretty stupid IMO.

Another 5 months for what? Have you checked the release dates recently?

Next gen stuff is just around the corner. But, if you must buy now I'd get the 9800GX2 from EVGA and then stepup once the new stuff comes out. The stepup value of the GX2 will be a lot higher then the 8800GTX.

Sell the GTX, get an EVGA GX2 and step up to a 9900GTX when it comes out...

Two 8800GTX's would be MUCH faster. If you wait, get yourself a 9900GTX or two

What are the latest speculations on the release date of the 9900 series?

Also, is the 9900 series different from the GeForce GTX280 and GTX260 that I've seen discussion about?
