Having read that Nvidia are replacing overheated units with the same units that have the faulty chips in them I'm seriously considering asking for a refund and going dare I say it for a 4870 knowing its going to run OK and not overheat.

I've been Nvidia since my days of FX5700, 6600GT, 7600GT but the Nvidia product is not looking very attractive right now and for the short term future either.

Do you guys have thoughts on this.

Regards
I wouldnt swap my 260 unless it was seriously seriously seriously overheating..

At idle with 55% fan it stays @ 40C which is great for in my mind, and when I game I -depending on the game itself- I usually go 85% fan for rpg's etc and 95% fan for crysis and fps games and the card never gets hotter than 60C.

That for me is well within tollerable levels heat wise.

I do have 1 extra 80mm red neon coolermaster fan blasting the back of the card @ all times however - I know that helps allot.

I'd do a straight swap for 4870 though - so if you can manage to get a 4870 for a straight swap or money back and then addign 20 quid etc to get one then I would say that would be an ok thing to do.

Personaly I wouldnt change to ATI if I can help it....
People call me a fan boy for that but its not how I see it tbh.
The way I see it is I've had positive experiences with all my nvidia cards and have had bad experiences whn I tried ATI..

I'd rather pay a little extra and feel comfatible with my hardware - then less and be always frustrated with it.

Having said that though - I wouldnt turn down a 4870 x2 - they're a nice card.

Hey Nemes,

Thanks for the feedback, I'm coming back over to the UK for five weeks from next Friday so when I get back down under if my card isnt back, I'll get a refund and maybe even as you say put the extra money in a go a 280 instead.

i notice no difference except 500 points in 3dmark06 for SLI and almost 1k for single card.
