Okay so I currently have an XP-M2500@2.41ghz/1GB XMS@400/2-3-3-7 and a spare 2.53C1 northy. Cooling either will be a TR Big Typhoon, which at is kicking Arse on this XP@.16CW non-lapped

I'm debating switching to a P4800C in hopes of a high 3ghz+ OC from it... but I'm not sure if it'd be worth it based on performance. I cannot find very much info on OC'd XP's Vs OC'd northwoods. So I'm asking what you all think I should do: stick out this AMD or make the intel switch to P4800C+2.53C1?

I'm currently waiting (long) out the Nehalem quadcores + onboard MCP so every little bit counts... to switch or not to switch?

Ciao!

The AMD chip will outperform the P4. Don't waste your time. It would be a downgrade.

Hrmm really? Ah... I keep forgetting about (at the time) AMD's clock-4-clock efficiency over P4's. So what equiv P4 speed is this XP2.41 comparable with? 3.2?

Roughly 3.6ish. Back in the day on this forum it was defined as AMD's doing 9 ops per clock cycle and P4's doing 6. Keep in mind this was a very rough way to put it.

2.41 x 9 / 6 = 3.615.

So you would need to clock that P4 higher than 3.6 to make any difference.

Wow this is great to hear guys... I guess it's AMD all the way till next fall... maybe AMD by then will have caught up or surpassed intel, thus prompting a wonderful price war again! Go AMD... And thanks!

Hey I was poking around to find some numbers and I found this rather disturbing nugget: http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles...45&cid=2&pg=24

Which shows the AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (512KB L2, 400MHz FSB, 2.200GHz) Lagging behind pretty bad for most of all the tests, even against a paltry 2.4C. Now my 2.41 isn't that far ahead of the 3200+ so according to these tests (could be wrong?) it would probably be on par with a 2.53/2.6C– and those are stock FSB P4's... So a 2.53 OC'd to around 3.2 (or however high I could manage) would seemingly be way on top of their charts?

Maybe b/c it's too early in the am for me, but this isn't making much sense atm about the clock Vs clock, b/c they even mentioned something about that note in the Review...

Come on someone has to know... Is this whole review wrong? Seems hard to believe now, that my 2.41 is equiv to a whole +1Ghz faster P4 North wood?

Yeah, basically the soc A AMD > soc 478 big time clock for clock... a 2.4GHz 2500+ is basically equivalent to a 478 P4 @ 3.5-3.6ish

I know personally because I had a huge argument over which performed better - my 2.2GHz 2500 or my friend's 2.6GHz P4...
