RAM issues

Thread Starter
I just got two gigs of OCZ DDR RAM (OCZ4001024ELPE) for my sig rig to replace my old, but faithful pair of 512 Corsair XMS. So I install the new RAM in the same slots as the previous ones. I boot up, everything starts but is slower then normal. I ignore it and go ahead and run 3d mark, and it only shows me having 1 gig installed. I check CCleaner to and it also says I only have a gig installed. I shutdown and test both dimms and the slots and everything checks out just fine. Stick both in again and both aforementioned programs say the same thing as before. So I download CPU-z and it tells me I have 2 gigs and that they are working properly. My computer is now slower with the new ram and it is pissing me off. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

My first thought would be to reset the CMOS and leave it for a few minutes. Then just do a quick check to see if all the sticks are all the way in the socket (i have done it before ).

triple checked the sticks, the are all the way in. I'll try resetting the CMOS a little later though, any other thoughts as to what could be wrong?

because they are new sticks there is always the possibility that one is faulty.

Try unpluging one and try booting, if it works then try taking that one out and replacing it with the other one and try booting then. If it doesn't boot then you know that stick is faulty.

If it boots for both of them...then i dont know. lol.

Random Edit: Hehe 400 posts. 100 better than my Avatar.

Yup Check both to see if they are all the way in, try them in different slots, the new ram you got is the cas latency higher then the other pair? and run a quick memtest too see if everything is alright and fine, these are at stock right? including Volts & timings?

everything is stock, I've already tested both sticks and they both boot up fine. CPU-z verifies that the sticks are identical, so yes CAS is the same, 2.5.

Well if CPU-Z Reads them and when you boot up it says 2048mb then i would say you have nothing to worry about, but as for it booting slower is odd, like boydyboyd said i would try a Cmos Reset and let it sit for awhile.

not just booting slower, it also is slower during normal operation too + it "hiccups", locks up every once in a while, for a second or two, which it never did before.
OT to Silent22, aren't those Kicker Solo Barics sweet, I put a 10 incher in my blazer and love it!

Off Topic/ Yeah i love them subs i get alot of people asking me what they are ,
On Topic/ Try Looking In your event Log to see what i says during these freeze's/lock ups and also if there is a bios update get it, maybe it improves compatibility with certain ram.
