That could be disastrous for nVidia, lower yields could easily push the GTX 280 into the $700+ range...

Our sources state that the manufacturing cost of the GT200 die is somewhere between $100 to $110 per piece. It is pricey and you will be getting a lot more processing logic inside this core than with any other semiconductor part in the short history of the IT industry.
Well they tell you how much it costs(basically); GT200 die = $100-$110 per piece... Still @ $499 a card they should be a able to turn a sizable profit(even after the added cost of PCB + 1GB GDDR3 + assembly/packaging/shipping), I just hope ATI puts enough pricing/performance pressure on Nvidia to keep things competitive. I'll be pissed if these monsters are ~$699.

You forgot to add in the cost of a 512 bit bus width Kromm

Shall we up that to 800 bucks anyone?

Actually I did state PCB cost, I just didn't specify the added cost associated with PCB design complexity due to 512bit bus...

$800, only if it decimates AMD's RV770s.

With a die that large, what will heat emissions be like? I hope they have that solved, because I would love to overclock this thing.

That's exactly what I'm thinking! The 3870 is only 190mm2, just think of the heat that thing will produce!

"a 300mm (12") wafer carried less than 120 G80 GPUs"

That has nothing to do with the PCB size of the card. Infact, the GTX200s will apparently be 10.5", the same size of the GTX, Ultra, GX2, and 3780x2.

It's probably because most mid-towers have just about 10.7" free.
